What’s on? Fishing expo, riding event and dog walk

Good morning SunLive readers and welcome back to Saturday.

For those of you who have woken up thinking the sky is looking a bit ominous today, you'd be right to raise a brow - MetService has predicted occasional rain developing this morning, but it's set to clear by the afternoon. Your high today is 19°c and overnight it's dropping to 15°c.

But don't let that hold you back from enjoying your weekend because there's a ton of events on around the city that you can get amongst.

The Tauranga Fishing and Boat show, for example, is on all weekend long at Bay Park arena and it promises to encompass everything in, on and under the water.

Companies which sell and service boats and yachts will be exhibiting, alongside marine electronics, boat builders and painters and trailer parts, amongst many others.

There will be new products, fishing tackle, entertainment, fishing simulators and talks on conservation, fish stocks and safety, with Coastguard and lifeguards in attendance.

It's open between 10am-6pm until Sunday so be sure to head along.

And one for the family to enjoy - Tauranga Riding for Disabled will be hosting their first ever relay event.

Thirty nine riders will be competing in a four hour relay, with many riders never having had the chance to ride outside of the RDA grounds.

The event will be held from 10am-2pm at Papamoa Pony Club Reserve, 491 Papamoa Beach Road.

Be sure to head along and support the riders.

If you've got a four-legged baby in the family, then be sure to head along to Fergusson Park at 10am.

Tauranga is one of 11 SPCAs who will be taking part in a dog walking event, as part of the the nationwide Walk Your Dog to the Moon fundraiser, which aims to raise $150,000 for abused, neglected and abandoned animals.

The WYDM appeal sees dogs and their owners uniting to walk the equivalent distance from the earth to the moon.

All funds donated will be used to directly help rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals.

A $12 registration fee applies to each participant, which includes a doggy pedometer, doggy bandana and a welcome pack. You can register for Walk Your Dog to the Moon at: www.walktothemoon.co.nz
