Heavy rain, gusty winds and hotter temperatures

Another spring surge is moving up the country bringing gusty NW winds.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says these winds have sub-tropical connections and can boost temperatures into the mid to late 20s for many, possibly even 30 for a few.

Hottest weather will be in the east of both islands although a colder change moves up the South Island's eastern side on Friday.

"Rain will be intense on the West Coast at times over the next 48 hours - please keep up to date with any rain warnings by MetService. Slips and flooding are possible.

"By the weekend high pressure rolls in but we do see showers around this weekend for some regions and again next week, despite the large amount of high pressure around."
