What’s on? Garden and art and smashing and bashing

Good morning SunLive readers and welcome back.

We're kicking off your weekend with more beautiful weather and plenty of events which are bound to keep you busy and content in the Bay.

Relax and unwind during the Bay of Plenty Garden and Art Festival.

Comprised of two components the festival features the Garden and Art Trail, which showcases 70 beautiful gardens from Katikati to Te Puke; and the BOP Garden and Art Festival Hub - Bloom in the Bay based at the Historic Village.

The festival hub is a good place for the whole family to chill out and includes food, bars, live music, presentations and workshops, creative demonstrations and art exhibitions, as well as plenty of activities for kids.

It's open from 9am-9.30pm and entry costs $5 for adults and children under 12 are free. Garden and Art Trail ticket holders can also enter for free.

Then later on this evening get ready for things to get loud at the SunLive Baypark Demolition Derby at Baypark speedway.

Baypark Speedway promoter Bernie Gillon has pegged the event as: "One of the craziest speedway nights you'll see all season."

Gates open from 5pm, with racing starting at 6.30pm. Public is welcome to come down early and walk through the pits to meet the drivers and see the race cars, or enjoy a buffet meal in the speedway lounge.

Tickets cost $60 for a family (two adults and three children), $25 for adults, $10 for seniors and children aged 5-15 years and children under five years old are free.
