Overnight closures in the Karangahake Gorge will continue until tomorrow night.

NZTA has advised of the overnight closures in the Karangahake Gorge, State Highway 2, which began on Tuesday night and resume until November 29.

'The works will occur between School Rd, Karangahake Village and Waitawheta Rd, Waikino.

'State Highway 2 will be closed to through traffic between Paeroa and Waihi.

'Detour options are to the north - via Hikuai and Kopu or to the south - via Tauranga and Matamata.”

Hauraki District Council says the closure is to allow for roading repair works to take place and is weather permitting.

'Emergency Services and residents living within the cordons will be given access through the site at all times however please be advised that ancillary works including road marking, minor construction and general maintenance works may be undertaken at various points between the outer cordons.

'Drivers traversing the closure are asked to be extremely vigilant at all times.”
