Christmas Parade celebrating local sports stars

The theme for this year's Seeka Te Puke Christmas Float Parade is celebrating local sports stars.

The parade, which will go along Jellicoe Street will have all sorts of sorting stars joining in on the Christmas festivities.

All Black Nathan Harris will be attending with Te Puke Sports and Recreation, along with Paralympians the have grown up in the Bay will be participating in the parade.

Rebecca Larsen, marketing manager for Te Puke events and promotions, says the parade will be running from 11am until noon, with prize giving taking place at 12.30pm.

'We will be singing the National Anthem for the winning float and I am hoping to pull off a flash haka.

'I have also been told that we will have past, present and future Paralympians in the parade.

'It's very exciting to have medal winners coming along to celebrate sport with us.

'I can also confirm that we have a special vehicle coming all the way from Northland with a crew.

'It is a McLaren M8F. Denny Hulme drove this model winning his CANAM Championship in North America and Canada. The car is owned by Warwick Mortimer who lives in Matakana in Northland.

'We are inviting anyone to walk the parade in their sports uniforms, carry their trophies, ribbons, and medals to meet at 10.30am behind the Te Puke Library to be grouped with walkers,” says Rebecca.

The parade is taking place this Saturday, December 1 from 11am along Jellicoe Street.
