Delays have been reported on State Highway 2 near Te Puna where a fallen tree is blocking a lane.

A reader who emailed SunLive says a tree has fallen onto the road on SH2 near Clarke road.

"Trees have fallen on the road and are blocking a lane.

"There are traffic jams in both directions."

SunLive understands roading crews are at the scene working to clear the road.

The road block comes as a large low in the Tasman is slowly falling apart.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says as the system pushes into a large high to New Zealand's east it's making for occasionally blustery conditions around the upper North Island.

The winds have been described as being below gale force but some gusts are pushing closer to the gale mark out in marine areas for a time this morning.

Ongoing hazard

Surprisingly the debris from the slip has not been removed several days later. The debris extends beyond the edge line forcing traffic around the cones and up to or even across the double yellow lines on a bend/blind brow. Come on NZTA - why has this hazard not been removed?
