A man who allegedly led police on chase in two stolen vehicles after assaulting a woman, is now in police custody.

Police were called at 9.30am, after reports a man was disturbed at an address on Old Kaimai Road.

'A woman was assaulted at the address, but her injuries are not life-threatening,” says a police spokesperson.

'The man then left the scene in a vehicle, which was later located by a police unit on SH29.”

The driver failed to stop for police and the short pursuit was abandoned due to the alleged offender's manner of driving.

Police deployed road spikes near Tauriko, says police.

'The driver subsequently crashed the vehicle and ran off, where he was able to steal another vehicle.

'The driver then crashed the second stolen vehicle, and shortly after was arrested by Police near Belk Road and SH29.”

The CIB are currently investigating at each scene.

'Charges are yet to be laid no further information to hand,” says police.
