Tattoo payment to help Tauranga children

One man's cash has just become treasure for a number of Bay of Plenty children.

Homes of Hope are the lucky recipients of a $675 cash donation from Tauranga's Bohemian Tattoo on Tuesday morning.

Owner Pepa Heller says the donation came about in an unconventional way when former employee, Emma Kerr, visited the studio for a tattoo.

'She had spent the day here while I finished her tattoo and because I had done a full day's work, she insisted on paying.

'I told her she didn't have to but she wouldn't take no for an answer.”

Rather than keeping the money, he decided he would donate it to Homes of Hope.

'I didn't want to keep it, so I've passed it on to someone who I thought needed it more.

'Homes of Hope are always good to deal with and we actually did a raffle with them once before so because we had that contact we decided to help them out again.

'I'm glad the money is going to a place where it's needed and will help out the wider community.”

Homes of Hope CEO Hilary Price says the money will help support children during what is often a financially challenging time of the year.

'It's such a glorious pleasure and with huge gratitude that we receive unexpected support from fabulous community partners like Bohemian Tattoo Artist, especially at this time.

'There are always extra expenses to cover during Christmas and the summer holidays.

'We want to ensure all the children presently with us, and those who have recently been in our care, have as much as we would wish for our own.”

The two businesses last partnered in 2017 for a fundraising campaign.

'Their generosity and thoughtfulness as they use their sphere of influence to help our tamariki is incredible.”
