Matata residents urged to conserve water

Matata residents are being urged to conserve water as levels are reaching an uncomfortable low.

Despite picking up overnight, Whakatane District Council says the township's water storage is low.

'Matata‘s water storage is still lower than we would like,” council has posted on Facebook.

'The reticulation system has been thoroughly checked and there are no issues, so it's just a matter of high usage at the moment, similar to the situation we had at this time last year.”

It's urging residents to conserve water.

'Thanks for your efforts so far, but to ensure that we have enough storage to cope with emergency situations, we will need Matata residents to keep conserving water wherever possible through this weekend, at least.

'No sprinklers; avoid washing the car; and don't top up swimming pools until further notice.”

An update can be expected tomorrow.
