Truck crash in the Eastern Bay

UPDATED: A large truck and trailer unit has rolled near railway lines in the Eastern Bay.

Emergency services are attending the scene of a truck crash on State Highway 2 near Matata, Whakatane.

A large truck and trailer has rolled near the railway line at about 2:50pm, says a police spokesperson.

"The truck is not blocking the railway line or the road.

"The driver has been transported to hospital with moderate injuries."

EARLIER:

Reports are coming of a truck crash in the Eastern Bay of Plenty this afternoon.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a truck, possibly a milk tanker, is on its side on Matata Road.

"Police are at the scene. The driver appears to be ok."

Motorists are being warned to expect delays in the area or use an alternative route if possible.
