The Aotearoa Bike Challenge is back again in February 2019, with Sport Bay of Plenty and the New Zealand Transport Agency encouraging individuals and businesses to take part.

In 2018. 908 people from 88 organisations in the Bay of Plenty participated in the challenge, and in 2019, NZTA say they would love to see this number topped.

The month-long workplace challenge saw more than 14,000 people participate nationwide and cycle an impressive 2.1 million kilometres in 2018.

In a statement issued by the NZTA, it says that for the 2019 challenge they have partnered with Love to Ride again, and is committed to making it bigger and better.

Sport Bay of Plenty says the month long challenge is open to all organisations, including businesses and clubs, and aims to get more people riding in a fun and free team competition.

'A new points-based system in 2019 means participants need only to cycle for 10 minutes or more to go in the draw for some great prizes, including an e-bike conversion kits and cycling gear.”

This year the Bay of Plenty has a range of cycling options for everyone from road riding to mountain biking and everything in between.

There are routes set up in the Western Bay of Plenty, the Eastern Bay of Plenty and in Rotorua.

The Aotearoa Bike Challenge starts on February 1 and runs all month until February 2019.
