Chiefs takes on the Blues

The Gallagher Chiefs will endure the soaring temperatures of the far north today when they take to the field for their first pre-season trial game.

The 26 man squad playing this afternoon will be hosted by the Blues in Kaikohe. The game will be played in two forty minute halves with water breaks at the 20 minute mark of each half.

A vocal Northland crowd is expected to witness the pre-season trial game kicking off at 3.00pm.

The starting team will be: Atu Moli, Liam Polwart, Sosefo Kautai ,Laghlan McWhannell, Michael Allardice, Pita Gus Sowakula, Lachlan Boshier, Taleni Seu, Brad Webber, Jack Debreczeni, Tyler Campbell, Orbyn Leger, Tumua Manu, Ataata Moeakiola, Shaun Stevenson.

Reserves: Samisoni Taukeiaho, Tevita Mafileo, Jeff Thwaites, Tyler Ardron, Mitchell Brown, Jack Stratton, Etene Nanai-Seturo, Alex Nankivell, Ross Wright, Tupou Vaai, Sekope Moli, Mitchell Jacobson, Jesse Parete, Bailyn Sullivan, Malo Tuitama.

Brodie Retallick and Sam Cane are co-captains of the Gallagher Chiefs for the 2019 season.

Head coach Colin Cooper believes that Brodie and Sam are well suited for the job, with plenty of experience between them.

'Sam and Brodie have been a part of the Chiefs team for a number of years now. They both bring great values, work ethic and leadership to our team.

'Brodie has earnt a huge amount of respect among the player and management group. With his consistent performance leadership, he is a natural fit to work with Sam.

'Like Brodie, Sam is very experienced and well respected by our players and management. We have no doubt together they will drive our team performance both on and off the field,” says Colin.”
