Tauranga woman charged after leaving baby in car

The woman is due to appear in court sometime next week.

A Tauranga woman has been charged after leaving a baby in a car.

The baby was left unattended in a vehicle on Gravatt Road, Papamoa Beach on January 31, says a police spokesperson.

"A 21-year-old woman has been charged with neglect of a child and will be summonsed to appear in court next week.

"A date is yet to be confirmed."

Stuff.co.nz reports that the baby was left inside the hot vehicle while the 21-year-old was gambling at a TAB.

Temperatures soared last week with some places recording 30 degress or more around the city.

there's a damp bus ticket waiting with her name on it, but it might have dried out in the heat by the time they get to her.
