What’s on? Water polo and women’s triathlon

Daughter and mother combo -Dee Burnell from Hamilton and Yvonne Shaw from Fairlie. They came in third last year and are back for 2019

Kia ora and morena Sunners, and welcome to your Sunday, where there's lots of great activities to participate in or be entertained by.

In Pilot Bay this morning, over 850 incredible women will be taking part in the Generation Homes Women's Triathlon 2019!

This is the sixth year that the event has run. With a 400m swim, a 10km cycle and a 4km run/walk, the event is designed to encourage the ‘have a go' philosophy and participants will be made up of women from 11 years of age and at any level of fitness and ability.

For some, this will be their very first triathlon, so if you're in the area come and cheer them on from 8.30am. Road closures will be in place from 5.30am to noon. Prize giving is at 11.30am.

Over on the Tauranga Waterfront this morning is day two of exciting water polo. Catch all the action from this inaugural event, come down and support your favourite teams, and chat with some of the players, who are competing to win the John Hayes Cup. John was a stalwart of Tauranga Water Polo and sadly passed away last year.

If you're feeling arty or want to go find some home grown veges, check out the markets and galleries. The Mount Farmer's Market is on in Coronation Park, and over in the Tauranga Historic Village you'll find a variety of exhibitions to explore.

We're expecting occasional showers today, but clearing evening after brisk westerlies change cooler, gusty southeast. There will be a high of 23 degrees today and an overnight low of 14 degrees. Remember to keep up your sun protection, even on a cloudy day.
