A Tauranga woman allegedly at the centre of two schools being forced into lockdown has been granted name suppression.

The 44-year-old woman was arrested yesterday following reports of gunshots in the Bellevue area.

Bellevue Primary and Otumoetai College went into lockdown after two shot were heard in the area around 9am.

Police were notified and cordoned off the area. The woman was arrested later in the day following police enquiries.

She has been charged with unlawfully carrying a firearm, possession of a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm, according to court documents.

During her appearance in Tauranga District Court today, the accused applied for bail through her lawyer.

This was declined by the judge and police also opposed the application.

The woman will remain in custody until her next court appearance on March 22.
