Motorists are being warned of delays if they are planning on travelling through the Karangahake Gorge tonight.
The stretch of road along State Highway 2, is being closed due to planned night time closures for asphalt resurfacing works.
The works have already taken place on Monday and Tuesday night, and works are due to be in their final night tonight.
The NZTA says it is a full road closure between Karangahake Village (School Road) and Waitawheta Road (Waikino).
“Residents access available to Mackaytown and Karangahake Village from Paeroa side; and Waikino Village from the Waihi side.”
A detour rote is in place for motorists travelling through the area.
Southern Detour Route: SH2 (Waihi to Tauranga), SH29, SH24, SH27 (Matamata to Tatuanui), SH26 (Tatuanui to Paeroa) and vice versa.
Northern Detour Route: SH25 (Waihi to Hikuai), SH25A, SH26 (Kopu to Paeroa) and vice versa.
