A person has sustained life threatening injuries after a truck rolled on a Bay of Plenty highway.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash on State Highway 30 in Tikitere at 2am, says a police spokesperson.
Tikitere - a geothermal area sometimes referred to as "Hell's Gate" - lies between Lake Rotorua and Lake Rotoiti.
Two people were injured and taken to Rotorua Hospital, according to St John.
One patient was critically injured, while the other sustained moderate injuries.
A person had been trapped in the vehicle when emergency services arrived, but was freed with extraction equipment, says Fire and Emergency NZ Daniel Nicholson.
Police remained at the scene after 6am and were waiting for the truck to be towed.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
