An Armed Offenders Squad was brought into Waihi on Thursday evening to locate a person of interest.

A member of the public reported to SunLive about 8pm that the Armed Offenders had been in Waihi for about three hours.

"The armed offenders have been trying to get a guy out of his house for three plus hours now. The house is surrounded and a road block is in place out the east end of Waihi.

"There's about eight police cars and a paddy wagon and dog handlers."

A Police spokesperson has reported that a person of interest, who was in breach of their conditions, was located by Police in Waihi.

One person is now in custody.
