The Pekatahi Bridge near Whakatane will be closed each night for a week starting on Sunday.
The bridge will be closed from 7pm to 6am from Sunday May 19 to Thursday May 23.
“As a contingency, we may require extending the overnight 7pm to 6am closure to include the night of Thursday May 23, re-opening 6am on Friday May 24,” says a spokesperson for the NZTA.
“This is to allow contractors to do maintenance on the bridge and is weather dependant.
“The detour will be clearly sign posted from State Highway 2 through Whakatane and will follow SH30, Hinemoa Street, Arawa Road, Valley Road and Taneatua Road.
“We thank motorists, local businesses and the wider community for their patience during this time and ask drivers extra care for cyclists and pedestrians while travelling the detour route through Whakatane.”
