The NZ Transport Agency is advising Queen's Birthday travellers returning from the weekend's holiday to be prepared for delays on Monday.

'We are expecting traffic delays to occur in and around the Waikato and Bay of Plenty region tomorrow as holidaymakers return home from the long weekend,” says an NZTA spokesperson.

In the Waikato, congestion is predicted to be heavy westbound on SH2 in Maramarua for most of Monday.

Further south near Hamilton, be prepared for congestion on SH1 in Taupiri and on SH1 near Karapiro.

In the Bay of Plenty delays are predicted westbound on SH29 Kaimai, on SH2 between Paeroa and Waihi, and on SH2 between Tauranga and Katikati.

NZTA recommend planning ahead and checking their interactive holiday journeys map for highway routes, dates and times of where traffic congestion is expected to be heavy. The advice is to be prepared before leaving on a trip.
