Raising the hemline

Waipuna Hospice staff Alan McKenna, Nadine Rogers, Sas Pearce, Wayne Bloxham, Gillian Osbourne and CEO Richard Thurlow repping bare legs for Shors4Hospice.

Waipuna Hospice is challenging people to brave the cold and bare their legs.

Individuals, groups, schools and businesses can do the Shorts4Hospice fundraiser on June 21.

Waipuna Hospice Board and Senior Leadership Team will also be taking part in the fun, competing with each other to see who can raise the most funds for the cause. Every dollar raised will result in each team member's hemlines getting shorter.

The goal is to raise $8000. At every milestone ($4000, $6000 and then $8000) the scissors come out and the trousers will get the snip.

The Hospice senior leadership team has a target of $4,000. Their trousers will get the snip at $2000, $3000 and $400.

Waipuna Hospice Director of Marketing and Fundraising Sasima Pearce says the hospice expects to care for roughly 1000 patients in 2019.

The organisation has a volunteer team of roughly 820 people working in all facets of hospice services.

Last year nurses made more than 9,642 visits and over 19,800 phone calls to patients in the community.

'There are many people who have had the experience of losing a loved one. Shorts4Hospice is a light hearted way to raise the subject of end of life care and community involvement with a fun and easy participation activity.”

'Funds raised from this event will go directly towards providing specialist medical care for patients living with a life limiting illness.”

'Shorts4Hospice is a great way to see the brighter side and raise funds for the fantastic work that Waipuna Hospice does,” says Sasima.
