Would you like to help protect sand dunes and have fun at the same time?

Volunteers are invited to come and join in on an enjoyable morning of digging and planting today's Coast Care community planting day today from 10am – 12pm at Mount Maunganui.

After breakfast, head on down to Oceanbeach Rd, approximately 150 metres from the Omanu shops heading east. Look out for the Coast Care flag.

Bring yourself, family, friends and some gardening gloves and Coast Care Bay of Plenty contractors and the staff from Bay of Plenty Regional Council will provide everything else and guide you on what to do and where to do it.

In May 1,300 plants were planted in two hours at one of the Oceanbeach Rd locations, with many locals turning out to help.

Digging in the sand is quite easy and dune restoration can be enjoyable and rewarding. You'll be doing your bit for native plants and animals and working with like-minded locals who care about the environment.

For all ages, just dig a hole, plant the plant, fill in the hole and feel proud of what you have done to help protect the dunes.

All you need to bring is covered sturdy footwear, suitable clothing, gardening gloves and a favourite spade.

Planting days have been held at Waihi Beach on May 26 and Mount Maunganui on May 19.

Another planting day will be help at Papamoa Beach on Sunday July 28 from 10am – 12pm.
