A heavy rain watch has been issued for the Bay of Plenty.

A front preceded by a moist northerly flow is moving eastwards across the South Island, bringing rain to western areas today and tonight.

Heavy falls are likely about the ranges, says the MetService.

"Tomorrow, a trough is forecast to lie over Bay of Plenty, bringing rain mainly to eastern parts. Bay of Plenty east of Matata has now been added to the Watch.

"People are advised to keep up to date with forecasts in case this watch is upgraded to a full warning."

Heavy Rain Watch

Area: Bay of Plenty east of Matata
Valid: 14 hours from 1pm Wednesday to 3am Thursday
Forecast: Periods of heavy rain. Rainfall amounts may approach warning criteria.

Area: The ranges of Westland south of Otira
Valid: 15 hours from 1pm Tuesday to 4am Wednesday

typical icon for tomorrow, looks like 3 drops with a heavy warning? so what does 5 drops or more mean then? like today 11th (updated from sunlive photo) shows 3 drops = 0.2mm at 22:00 - 00:00 but surely its just one drop but they don't do an icon for this!..think metservice could do better here.
