One person has been critically injured and another is in serious condition following a two vehicle crash in Rotorua.

Emergency services were called to the crash at the intersection of Iles Road and Selwyn Road at 10.17am on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson says two people had been trapped inside one of the cars.

One person sustained critical injuries, the other was in a serious condition, St John said in an incident alert.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
