People urged to check sheds for missing man

Police are urging people in the Whakamarama area to check their shed for any signs of a missing Tauranga man.

Brian Davies, 85, was last seen around 11.45am on Wednesday in Matua.

Police believe he may be in the Whakamarama Road area and ask residents to check their properties and sheds.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner told SunLive tonight that police have located Brian's vehicle on Whakamarama Road and are focussing their search in the area.

"The gentleman has tried to do a three point turn on a narrow stretch of road and has hit a bank in the process.

"The car has been towed away for examination."

A reporter at the scene says the car was located just before 5pm.

"Fire trucks from Omokoroa, Tauranga and a specialised incident response truck attended the scene.

"They were stood down around 7pm. A number of detectives arrived on scene, police were seen searching with torches."

Police are continuing to make enquries to locate Brian and urge anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

Anyone who has seen Brian is asked to contact Police on 105.
