Roads are closed around the Bay of Plenty today due to flooding. Other roads have road hazard warning due to slips and pot holes.

State Highway 2 from Awakeri to Opotiki through the Waimana Gorge is closed.

According to the NZTA website the road was first closed at around 7pm last night.

'Due to flooding the road is closed via Waimana Gorge.”

The detour route is along Wainui Road.

SH2 near Taneatua is also closed due to flooding.

'Due to the Whakatane River severely flooding, SH2 Taneatua is closed between Rewatu Road and Taneatua Road.”

According to the NZTA website the road was closed at 6am this morning. A detour route advised is to use local diversions.

It is unknown at this stage when either road will re-open.
