Long delays cause chaos through Te Puna

Motorists are advised to expect delays along State Highway 2 this afternoon.

Traffic has been congested in the area of Te Puna for most of the day as an event took place in the area.

'Due to an event drivers are advised to expect delays through this area,” says the NZTA.

The expect resolution is estimated for 4pm but the area is expected to remain heavy as peak hour traffic hits.

Motorists are advised to stay clear of the congested area or to delay their travel if possible.

What Event?

What a debacle, at 11:30 I left Omokoroa Road and the traffic was backed up almost immediately. It took 1 hour 10 minutes to then get to Bethlehem. Get to the Marae where the event was and there was one Maori Warden acting as pointsman. Whoever was in charge of this "event", failed miserably. Surely if they had road signs denoting speed changes then this was a Transit NZ or Council sanctioned event and therefore should have had more appropriate traffic flow measures.

What was

What was the event not mentioned in the article and was detailed notification notified as my elderly mother in law had a serious hospital appointment to have her heart problem monitored. And this traffic situation started before lunch.

Left Aongatete area 12 pm for a 1 pm appointment in Tauranga. Arrived Bethlehem 1.10 pm! Appointment lost, so returned home. If this had been an accident, would e understood, but for an event on an already congested highway, is beyond belief. Checked SunLive for info, and found nothing, and also nothing on radio to alert us. Not good enough

Total disruption to all, includes couriers, trucking companies, taxis, buses, emergency services, people with appointments etc. Must not be allowed to happen again.
