Police checking on a man taking a nap in his car may not have expected to find a stash of guns in the vehicle.
Officers were called to check on the man, who had been sleeping in his car for a few hours, on Domain Road near Papamoa Beach.
But upon checking on Wednesday morning, they allegedly found firearms, a police spokeswoman says.
A 34-year-old man was taken into custody and faces three charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and one charge of methamphetamine possession.
He is due to appear in Tauranga District Court today.
