One person is in Tauranga Hospital with serious injuries following a crash on State Highway 2.

Emergency services were called to the crash at 5.25am.

A police spokesperson says the call came in as a report of a car versus a bank on SH2, between Woodland Road and Kauri Point Road.

'It sounds like there was one person who had serious injuries and was transported to hospital.”

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
