Improving pedestrian safety on 18th Avenue

On Monday 30 September, Tauranga City Council is commencing with the installation of a new pedestrian crossing on 18th Avenue between Fraser Street and Grace Road. This crossing will be directly outside the Tauranga Intermediate and Tauranga Special School, and will allow students, parents, teachers and other people travelling through this area to safely cross the road – replacing the current speed hump.

To carry out these works with as little inconvenience as possible, construction is planned during the school holidays and is expected to be completed by Friday 11 October, weather permitting.

To realise the short timeframe of the works, the road will be closed to all traffic between 30 September and 11 October. Recommended detours via Grace Road, 16th Avenue and Fraser Street will be signposted.
