A police spokesperson says, an earlier release said the crash at the intersection of SH36 and Mangatoi Road, Oropi, involved two vehicles.

This is incorrect, only one vehicle was involved.

The crash, involving two vehicles, was reported at 4.30pm, a police spokesperson says.

One person is reported to be in a critical condition.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible

Earlier: Traffic delays are being reported along State Highway 36 this afternoon.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says traffic is building up through the gorge due to a crash in the area.

Live traffic reporting from Google Maps shows heavy traffic through the gorge.
