Grace Road exit onto 15th Ave permanently closed

The city side exit of Grace Road onto 15th Avenue is now permanently closed.

Tauranga City Council says this is 'an important milestone in the 15th Avenue Improvements project”.

'A concrete island has been poured to stop vehicles from exiting Grace Road onto 15th Avenue and to stop 15th Avenue traffic from turning right into Grace Road.

'There is now only left turn access into Grace Road from 15th Avenue.”
To highlight the change, ‘no exit' signs have been placed at the 14th Avenue entry to Grace Road.

All motorists must use Burrows Street or Fraser Street to access 15th Avenue from this side of town.
'The changes at the Grace Road intersection will contribute to improving the level of service for people travelling along 15th Avenue towards Maungatapu/Welcome Bay in the afternoon peak.”

Bus Stop

"We have reinstated the bus stop next to Grace Road. This bus stop was temporarily relocated to allow for the works but is now back to its original spot," says the council.

Safe Cycling

"We thank all cyclists for taking the detours as indicated in our map and around the work site. With work shifting to the southern side of 15th Avenue, we now encourage cyclists coming from the Welcome Bay area to the city to use the detours provided. These will also be well sign-posted when cyclists approach 15th Avenue from the city."

Burrows Street

The start date for works at the Burrows Street intersection is still being finalised, however we anticipate starting service locations in the coming weeks.

How will this work impact me?

15th Avenue will stay open during the works, but delays are possible. Residents and businesses in the area may face some disruption.

"We will ensure to complete the work in a way that reduces disruption as much as possible. However, there will be times when construction equipment will cause disruption, and traffic temporarily worsens.

"We thank you for your patience while the work is being undertaken."
