The road toll for Labour Weekend stands at one.
It's only the third time since 1955 the toll has been that low over the long weekend.
The last time was in 2013.
This year, a motorcyclist died in a collision with a car a Te Kiri, near Opunake in Taranaki, on Sunday. There were several serious injury crashes as well.
Last year, five people died on the roads over the long weekend, and there were six fatalities during Labour Weekend in 2017.
So far this year, 271 people have died on the road - 30 fewer than at the same point last year.

The roads have not changed for this weekend. The drivers attitude has.Well done to most of the drivers out there this weekend.NZTA take note that its drivers that causes accidents not our roads or speed limits.

Hear! Hear! I agree 100%. They should be targeting driver awareness and behaviour, not just putting a changed speed limit and thinking that makes it "safer". Some of our roads DO need some work, but by far the biggest factor in road safety is driver awareness.
