Halloween comes to Tauranga

The streets of Tauranga came alive last night with groups of costumed children happily going house to house to see what treats may be waiting for them behind front doors.

Parents were close by too, keeping a safety-conscious eye on the little butterflies, ghosts, fairies and monsters.

Near Grace Hospital, a group of Pyes Pa residents got together to put on a neighbourhood party. Madi Williams, age 9, dressed as Zombie Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family and helped her mum Aimee Williams to decorate the house and put grave headstones on the front lawn.

Between Aimee and her friends, they have a lot of kids, so they decided to organise a halloween party that was safe and fun for their children to all enjoy.

The garage was decorated with balloons and very soon all the children arrived dressed up in their costumes.

Sebi Kennedy, 9, is Aimee's cousin and came dressed as a yellow banana while Ella Kennedy age 10, who is not related to Sebi although they have the same family name, came dressed as a fairy.

In Bethlehem, Sumer Gallery owner Daniel du Bern and well-known ‘House of Travel' actress and founder of TMH Management Tanya Horo were two of the parents accompanying a group of children including their own as they went ‘trick or treating' door to door in Cambridge Heights.

Meanwhile, Tauranga's Te Ariki Berryman, 14, had to travel up to Auckland on Thursday, to the Ronald McDonald House.

Te Ariki will be entering Starship Hospital on Friday to undergo a bronchoscopy.

Being in Starship with bronchiectasis isn't fun for Halloween but the staff at the Ronald McDonald House put on ‘trick or treat' for families, dressing up and creating spooky food like monster hamburgers, creamy ghost pies and yummy gummy eye balls.

'The eyeballs went well with ice cream,” says Te Ariki's mother Ang Berryman.
