The popular Little Big Markets event on Sunday has been cancelled due to the wind forecast.

'Unfortunately, the wind for Sunday has picked up and to go ahead will just be far too dangerous,” says events coordinator Tessa Sowry. 'Due to this, we are cancelling this weekend's market altogether.”

The event was planned to be held at Coronation Park at Mount Maunganui.

The organisers made the decision on Saturday morning about whether to proceed before contacting all their stall holders.

'We don't take these decisions lightly hence why we saved it until this morning to be absolutely sure. We love each and every market which is why it is always our main priority to go ahead when it is possible.

'However, when the wind is involved, it becomes very dangerous for yourself, your fellow market peers as well as your customers.”

The MetService has forecast a moderate south-westerly wind for Sunday morning, increasing during the day to a fresh westerly in the afternoon and evening.
