Public asked to avoid Whakatane street

Police are asking people to avoid Alexander Ave in Whakatane this morning.

Senior Sergeant Al Fenwick says there is an ongoing police operation in the area at the moment.

Armed police have been seen on the street.

"We thank the pubic for their patience and ask them to avoid Alexander Ave due to an ongoing police operation.

"There is no risk to the public."

Downplaying

If there is 'no risk to the public' why are the Police armed? Why is the public being asked to avoid the area. If it is gang related, if there is firearms from whatever side, then there is a risk. So long as you're downplaying things and feeding us rubbish then your response will become a little inadequate more and more as you water it down and someone's going to get a bad outcome. Enough crap. You expect the public to be honest with you, well you be honest with the public as well.
