Reports are coming in of a fire in the Wairoa area of Western Bay of Plenty.

A SunLive reader has emailed to say they can see fire and smoke in the Wairoa area.

They say fire services have been called to investigate but the exact location is unknown.

A message on Sunlive's Facebook page says the fire is still going and has travelled a fair distance.

'It's a grass fire, fire brigade are in attendance. It's been burning for at least an hour now.”
