Vehicle rolls on Western Bay highway

Updated: State Highway 2 is now open following a crash this morning.

One Lane had been blocked after a ute and trailer rolled then went down a bank near Plummers Point Road on SH2.

The NZ Transport Agency says the road was clear by 10:15 am.

A St John spokesperson says ambulance received a call about the crash around 9:20am.

One ambulance was sent to the scene and transported one patient in a moderate condition to Tauranga Hospital, they say.

Earlier: Motorists are being warned to expect delays on State Highway 2 this morning following a crash.

A caller to the SUNLIVE news hotline says police are at the scene of a crash on SH2, near Plummers Point Road.

"It looks like a vehicle has rolled and the driver is receiving treatment at the scene.

"A ute and trailer are down a bank."

NZ Transport Agency is advising one lane is blocked due to the crash and to expect delays or avoid the area if possible.

Take extra care when passing the scene, NZTA says.

A police spokesperson says they received a report of a vehicle that had rolled on SH2 at 9.20am.

It has reportedly rolled multiple times before ending in a ditch, say police.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
