One in custody after armed callout

UPDATE 10.29AM: One person is in police custody following an armed police response in Te Puke this morning.

A SunLive reader has emailed in and says there are armed police blocking the corner of Manoeka Road and Te Puke Quarry Road this morning.

Another reader says there is a massive police presence in Te Puke, along Te Puke Highway.

A police spokesperson says officers were looking for a person of interest.

"Staff were armed as a precaution and we have one person in custody."

EARLIER:

Reports are coming in of armed police cordons in Te Puke.

They say there are police cars station all along the road at intervals.

Why such a big response for arresting one person. Highway Patrol, Police, tasers armed Police so therefore Delta as well. Seems OTT. A waste of Police time and one really expensive arrest. Who was this person? If they were SO insanely dangerous why wasn't the public warned, why wasn't it on tv news? Just saying . . .
