Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises State Highway 2 will be closed to eastbound traffic between Te Puna and Wairoa River Bridge from 9am to 3pm on Saturday, July 11.

The lane closure is to allow contractors to replace a power pole damaged when a tree fell in high winds earlier this week.

This work was started on Monday but was unable to be completed due to unfavourable weather conditions, says a spokesperson for the roading agency.

"Eastbound traffic towards Tauranga will be detoured via Te Puna Road and Te Puna Station Road to allow room for a crane on the road. Westbound traffic will remain on SH2.

"Traffic in both directions should allow an extra 5-10 minutes for journeys between Te Puna and Bethlehem."

Visit journeys.nzta.govt.nz for up to date information on road works, traffic, road closures, detours and delays.

Waka Kotahi thanks customers for their patience while this essential work is completed.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:

If morons slowed down to posted speed limits at road works there wouldn't be a need to entirely close roads (although I haven't seen this site). The speed is reduced to 30km outside Fraser Cove for a short stint, I passed through there yesterday and the speeds were absolutely ludicrous. Even with traffic lights there some speeds were well over 50kmh. Come on Police . . .
