Pleas for road safety improvements following crash

A car crashing on Saturday night in Arataki has resulted in pleas from residents for greater speed and safety measures to be introduced.

The vehicle crash has occurred on the corner of Lambeth Tce and Gloucester Rd.

It is understood that the vehicle crashed through one fence and gate into a driveway and finally came to rest up against another fence at Health 4 U on Gloucester Rd.

Residents say that there was no one injured.
Police report that they received a report around 7.40am this morning of a car v fence collision at an address on Lambeth Tce.
"No reports of any injuries. Police have made contact with vehicle owner and enquiries are ongoing," says a Police spokesperson.

A Lambeth Tce resident says that it 'looks as though they have failed to take the corner and gone through the gate and fence.

'The neighbours immediately next to the premises were woken by the crash. Very drunk young woman in her parent's car – she begged for police not to be called as they are away for the weekend.

'[She] didn't appear to be injured. Speed and careless driving is an issue down this street,” says the Lambeth Tce resident. 'It was great when Exeter Street was closed off due to the road works, not as much traffic.

'This is the third time I've seen a car through a fence in this very short street. Surprised there haven't been speed bumps or something put in.”

Street residents say that their road is treated like part of a racing circuit.

'We honestly hear the cars tearing down this road ALL the time - we just brace ourselves for the bang,” says one resident from Lambeth Tce.

'It's such a short street, but they treat it like part of a racing circuit with Eversham Rd, and a short cut through to the expressway.

'It would be really great if they looked into safety improvements!”

Police also report that a car hit a tree on Doncaster Dr on Saturday night.

The Doncaster Dr crash was reported to Police around 12am. There were no reports of any injuries or road blocks.

Speed bumps won't stop these idiots, and the drugs that affect your driving this badly are already legal! Driving skills need improving first, and road layouts are terrible and encourage accidents to happen.

sorry red but i disagree with you. there is nothing wrong with the roads. if everybody drove to the road and weather conditions prevaling you would be quite safe. the drugs that i was referring to is cannibus etc which are not legal yet and i hope never will be

We are in disagreement then dumbkof2, alcohol and driver distraction are main reasons for most crashes. Cannabis still won't affect your ability anywhere near as much as alcohol does, and if anything, after the referendum it will be safer on the roads due to regulation, testing and user education (hoping that's accurate too) I will be voting YES! Voting no will keep the status as is now, NO CHANGE! That particular bit of road may be okay, but there are lots of roads that are confusing to drive (intersections and roads joining each other etc).

Once upon a time..

Why is this story not about drunk or reckless driving? The drunk driving aspect is totally ignored, or is it just accepted now while the ignorant bang on about drugs that could be legalised.

Oh dear Red!

And you think legalising a stupifier is going to make it any safer on our roads? All it will do is shift ones personal boundaries of what is right or wrong, what they should do or shouldn't do, what they used to think they could get away with to what they now believe is possible because their inhibitions and sense of risk has deminished due to dopping-up. And these people under the infuence think even less about the consequences of adding alcohol to the mix. I'm sorry Red but I and my Doctor friends and Police friends are voting NO.
