A 24-year-old man charged with murder in connection to the death of Hamilton man Sao Young is denying the charge.

The accused appeared in Hamilton District Court on Monday.

Through his counsel Charles Bean, he pleaded not guilty to the single charge of murder, Stuff reports.

The man was arrested on Saturday evening following an investigation into the death of Sao Young.

Mr Young's body was discovered on a rural property in Gordonton on Monday, April 13, a month after he was last seen in the Insoll Avenue area of Hamilton.

Detective Inspector Graham Pitkethley says the homicide investigation is ongoing with a focus on identifying and seeking out all those present at the time of Mr Young's death.

'I'd like to thank those who have contacted the team to date and encourage others to come forward to explain their involvement.

'Our investigation team is committed to establishing the facts, providing closure for Mr Young's family, and holding those responsible to account.”
