Crash near Katikati delays traffic this morning

NZTA have advised that there is a temporary 30km per hour speed limit in place this morning on SH2 between Waihi and Katikati due to a vehicle crash last night.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and to take extra care through the area.

SH2 was closed last night due to a crash on the highway between Waihi and Katikati.

The crash occurred between Tuapiro Rd and Kauri Point Rd. It is unknown at this stage whether there were any injuries.

PowerCo reported that there was a power outage at 10.47pm due to a vehicle striking a pole, resulting in 382 properties being affected. The estimated power restoration time was 3am Saturday.

Motorists were advised of an alternative route for light vehicles to take on Saturday night using Tuapiro Rd, onto Martray Rd, Ongare Point Rd, then Kauri Point Rd.

SH2 stayed closed until 3am when a temporary speed limit of 30 km per hour was put in place. The temporary speed limit is still in place today. Motorists are advised to take extra care through the area and to expect delays.
