A man is facing a murder charge in connection to a homicide investigation in the Bay of Plenty.

The 35-year-old man charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to the death of Wipatene Mason, has now also been charged with murder.

The accused was arrested following the death of Wipatene in Nukuhou, Eastern Bay of Plenty, on December 26.

Police laid the murder charge against the accused on Tuesday, says a police spokesperson.

'The man is due to appear in Tauranga District Court on February 10.”

"Enquiries into Mr Mason's death are ongoing and Police would like to hear from anyone who has not yet spoken to us and knows anything that may be useful to our investigation."
