Omanawa murder accused denies charges

A man accused of murder following a death in Omanawa will remain behind bars until his next court appearance.

The 51-year-old appeared via audio visual link at the Tauranga Court this morning.

He was arrested and charged with murder on February 4, following a homicide investigation into the death 30-year-old Jamin Roemaata Harrison.

During his appearance today, the alleged offender pleaded not guilty to one count of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, namely a shotgun.

The charge stems from an incident where Jamin died at a property on McLaren Falls Rd on January 25.

Name suppression continues for the accused, who is due to go to trial in the Rotorua High Court next year.

A trial date is yet to be confirmed.

The accused is due to appear in court again on June 30.
