Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield explains New Zealand's Covid-19 vaccine roll-out plan including delivery, the online booking tool, and public sentiment research.

He is joined by Counties Manukau District Health Board (DHB) chief executive Fepulea'i Margie Apa, and Ministry of Health data and digital deputy director-general Shayne Hunter.

Medsafe has requested additional information from Johnson & Johnson ahead of making a decision about whether to approve the pharmaceutical company's Covid-19 Janssen vaccine.

In the past few days the US, EU, Australia and South Africa have temporarily halted its use, over concerns about a rare type of blood clotting.

Two new cases of Covid-19 in managed isolation - from India and Ethiopia - have been reported today.

A pop-up testing centre remains open in Mt Roskill in central Auckland, an area where some places were visited by an MIQ worker who tested positive at the weekend.

.....what about the flu vaccine? The Government keep pushing the date out for when the flu vaccination will become available. I was booked in for mine on the 28th April and now that has been pushed out to the 13th May!! This mean I won't be fully covered until the beginning of June....well in to the flu season. More chance of getting the flu than COVID-19 in NZ.

Personally I never take it; tried it once and was in bed for 3 weeks with the worst flu I ever had. (I have had the shingles (a herpes virus) jab, after seeing what it did to a couple of friends...) Fortunately, much of the advice they have given us to prevent Covid, also works for other viruses (like the 'flu). Wash your hands frequently, avoid crowded public spaces if you can (and definitely wear a mask if you can't). It doesn't hurt to take daily Vitamin C during the 'flu season also. Beware of grandkids and kids who are in school (which is a hotbed for viral infections...), even though it's hard... I do all of this and I haven't had 'flu for over 10 years now (without taking the shots). I'm sure you can survive until June... :-)
