One dead following crash on Te Matai Road

6pm update: One person has died following a car and motorcycle crash near Te Puke.

Police have confirmed that a person has died following the crash on Te Matai Rd.

Police remain at the scene continuing a scene examination.

Diversions remain in place.

The crash occurred at around 3.34pm on Te Matai Rd between Mark Rd and Waimea Drive.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and expect delays.

Earlier, 4pm: Police are at the scene of a serious crash between a car and a motorbike near Te Puke.

Te Matai Rd is now closed to all vehicles apart from emergency services.

Initial indications are that there are serious injuries. Police say an update on injuries will be provided when able.

The crash occurred at around 3.34pm on Te Matai Rd between Mark Rd and Waimea Drive.

The Serious Crash unit is attending.

Diversions are being put in place. The road is expected to be closed for several hours while an investigation is conducted.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and to expect delays.
