Man who died in police shooting named

Police have named the man who died following a firearms incident involving police in Hamilton last week.

Joel Robin Buckley, 42, of Hamilton is the person who died in the shooting, which occurred in Hillcrest.

The Police and IPCA investigations into this incident are ongoing.

Officers were involved in a firearms incident at a property on O'Donoghue Street in Hillcrest on Wednesday night.

Officers investigating the fatal police shooting are also appealing for any photos or video footage taken of the incident.

"Anyone who was in the Hillcrest Road and O'Donoghue Street areas between 10pm and 10:30pm and who has any video footage or photographs of the incident, is asked to submit these to the investigation team,” says a police statement.

Anyone else with information that can help is asked to get in touch with Police on 105.

A police officer, who suffered an injury after falling during the incident, remains in hospital in a stable condition and is expected to be released from hospital in the coming days.
