Mass traffic delays are being reports on State Highway 2, between Tauranga and Katikati.
SunLive readers have emailed in saying traffic is backed-up either side of Aongatete.
One reader says the road is back-up to Rea Road.
"One lane is banked up on the north side of Katikati."
According to the Waka Kotahi NZTA website, shoulder widening and safety works are taking place.
Speed restrictions are in place in the area.

What I find so annoying is when there's absolutely nothing happening there on weekends and the speed limit of 50kph and 30kph remains posted. Too lazy to take them down.
