Police are continuing to investigate two fires which occurred within days of each other in Tauranga.

However, there is currently no indication that the incidents in Bethlehem and Otūmoetai are linked.

Emergency services were called to the first fire in question at 4.15pm on Saturday, July 10.

Three fire crews attended the scene at the Bethlehem Town Centre car park.

A hedge had ignited and two cars also suffered damage.

The second fire occurred at the Otūmoetai Golf Club on Tuesday, July 13, at around 7.30pm.

Five large palm trees were up in flames when fire crews arrived on the scene.

Shortly after, police said they were 'following strong lines of enquiry” regarding the Bethlehem blaze but are stating that at present there is no update.

Police also say it is 'unlikely” that the two vegetation fires are linked.
